Le Miroir

Le Miroir

Le Miroir  is a French short film by directors Ramon and Pedro. The film cleverly documents the progression of a man's life from childhood to adult hood through pov glances in his bathroom mirror. A clever concept, Le Miroir tells its narrative purely through visuals with little to no dialogue at all; we watch as the character picks spots, shaves for the first time and separates from his wife, all through his bathroom mirror.

It is hard to tell how the logistics of the concept work; perhaps the directors used doubles behind a pane of glass, guised as a mirror, or maybe they used cgi to enhance the visual. The edit is so smooth and seamless that it is hard to tell. What is obvious however is that the story is progressed through clever use of ambient sound effects and performance, subtle faces twitches speak more for Le Miroir than any dialogue could.

There is a lot to learn from this film and a lot that I can apply to my own drama piece. For example the film acts as a demonstration that dialogue is not essentially and that a story can be just as powerful when told through performance and visuals alone. This may be beneficial for our film as we do not intend to include a huge amount of dialogue.
